Couch Potato

There is an old saying which says…

If you give a man a fish he can feed himself for a day.
If you teach a man to fish he can feed himself for a lifetime.

The flesh is lazy. The flesh is like a couch potato sitting in it’s La-Z-Boy recliner waiting to be spoon-fed the word of God.

The flesh would rather watch an inspirational video or listen to a TV evangelist than look into the Scriptures and read them first hand.

The flesh cannot feed itself.

Psalms 1:2
But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night.

Psalms 112:1
Praise the LORD! How blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who greatly delights in His commandments.

The spirit delights in the law of the Lord and meditates on it day and night.

The spirit greatly delights in His commandments and reads the Scriptures all on it’s own.

The spirit has learned how to feed itself.

Matthew 4:19
And He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

And not only can the spirit feed itself but it can teach others how to feed themselves. The spirit is a fisher of men.

So…

Can you feed yourself (or are you a couch potato)?

Are you a fisher of men?
