A Living Being
Then God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them”; and it was so.
Then God said, “Let the waters teem with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open expanse of the heavens.”
Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind: cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth after their kind”; and it was so.
Genesis 2:7
Then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
According to Hebrew thought the expression breath of life is a symbol or metaphor for the Holy Spirit. The Spirit, who was breathed into Adam’s nostrils, separated Adam from all of the other creatures that the Lord had made. And it was the indwelling of the Spirit who made Adam a living being.
John 3:3-5
Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.“
When a believer is born again of the Spirit the Spirit is breathed into their nostrils. And it is the indwelling of the Spirit who makes the believer a living being.
