Look to Jesus
Number 21:6-9
The LORD sent fiery serpents among the
people and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died. So the
people came to Moses and said, “We have sinned, because we have spoken against
the LORD and you; intercede with the LORD, that He may remove the serpents from
us.” And Moses interceded for the people. Then the LORD said to Moses, “Make a
fiery serpent, and set it on a standard; and it shall come about, that everyone
who is bitten, when he looks at it, he will live.” And Moses made a bronze
serpent and set it on the standard; and it came about, that if a serpent bit
any man, when he looked to the bronze serpent, he lived.
John 3:14, 15
“As Moses lifted up the serpent in the
wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; so that whoever believes
will in Him have eternal life.”
When the people of Israel sinned against God they
had to look to the bronze serpent in order to live. For you and I to live we
must look to Jesus as the people of Israel looked to the serpent.
But looking to Jesus is not just a one-time
event. We must look to Jesus every day of our lives for His guidance,
instruction and protection…
Matthew 14:28-30
Peter said to Him, “Lord, if it is
You, command me to come to You on the water.” And He said, “Come!” And Peter
got out of the boat, and walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But seeing
the wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord,
save me!”
When Peter looked to Jesus he could
walk on water. But when he turned away to look at the wind he sank into the
sea.
You and I can learn from Peter’s
example. When we encounter the storms of everyday life we need to look to Jesus
to see us through. If we look to ourselves or if we look at our circumstances
we will be overcome by the waves and sink into the sea.
We must look to Jesus not only for
our salvation but we must keep our eyes focused on Jesus every day of our lives
if we are to remain above the waves of the world.
So…
Who are you lookin’ at?
