The Real Thing

Matthew 7:15

“Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.”

2 Peter 2:1

But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.

In the banking industry there is a principle which says that the best way to recognize a counterfeit bill is to become as familiar as possible with the real thing. Not only does a counterfeit bill look differently from a real bill but it feels differently and in some cases it even smells differently.

Luke 24:27

Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.

John 5:39

“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me;”

The best way you and I can recognize a false teacher or a false prophet is to become as familiar as possible with Jesus, the Real Thing. And one way we can do this is by searching the Scriptures.
