Babylon

We saw from a prior post that the Babylon of Revelation is the Sodom of Genesis only on a much grander scale - Sodom.

Genesis 18:20

And the LORD said, “The outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is indeed great, and their sin is exceedingly grave.”

Revelation 17:4, 5

The woman was clothed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a gold cup full of abominations and of the unclean things of her immorality, and on her forehead a name was written, a mystery, “BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.”

Does the Babylon of Revelation exist today?…

Revelation 17:1, 2

Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and spoke with me, saying, “Come here, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters, with whom the kings of the earth committed acts of immorality, and those who dwell on the earth were made drunk with the wine of her immorality.”

Revelation 17:18

“The woman whom you saw is the great city, which reigns over the kings of the earth.”

The expression “above the waters” or “sits on the waters” symbolizes authority and dominion over the peoples and the nations of the earth.

Is there a nation today which sits on many waters, a nation that is militarily and financially the most powerful nation in history? Is there a nation today which has no equal and for all practical purposes reigns over the kings of the earth?

Revelation 17:15, 16

And he said to me, “The waters which you saw where the harlot sits, are peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues. And the ten horns which you saw, and the beast, these will hate the harlot and will make her desolate and naked, and will eat her flesh and will burn her up with fire.”

Is there a nation today which is hated by the other nations?…

The recent politics of this nation has caused its friends and allies to question its commitments. And the Edward Snowden leaks of 2013 revealed that this nation spies on its friends and allies - friends and allies which have secretly come to hate this nation.

Revelation 18:3

“For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the passion of her immorality, and the kings of the earth have committed acts of immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich by the wealth of her sensuality.”

Revelation 18:9

“And the kings of the earth, who committed acts of immorality and lived sensuously with her, will weep and lament over her when they see the smoke of her burning,”

As for the morality of this nation…

Its celebrities (who are worshipped) perform lewd and immoral acts and premarital sex and extramarital affairs are considered the norm. It’s athletes (who are worshipped) cheat by taking drugs so they can gain an advantage over their competitors. It’s Wall Street millionaires (who are worshipped) lay off their employees destroying their lives for the sake of the bottom line. Its politicians (who are worshipped) are bought by special interest groups at the expense of the average citizen.

So…

Does the Babylon of Revelation exist today?
